Rejoice: Drunk Athletes!

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

For your viewing pleasure, here’s a nice compilation of athletes under the influenc e.  Many are in fact basketball players, so it is relevant to the theme of my blog (that’s my story).  Lots of Nash and Dirk, cause they like to party; note the very funny pictures of Reggie Miller towards the bottom.

Shaq: The Big “Baby”

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Really Shaq?  Don’t you ever grow up?  Don’t you ever get tired of looking like a little kid with giganticism?  Orlando Coach Stan Van Gundy, Shaq’s former coach in Miami, ripped on him a little for flopping against Dwight.  Ok, yea… that wasn’t very nice or mature, calling out the big fella like that.  I understand Shaq might be upset, so what does he do? O’Neal responded on Wednesday, calling Van Gundy a “nobody,” a “frontrunner” and a “master of panic” in the playoffs.

Really Shaq?   A nobody?  A master of panic in the playoffs?  It just makes you look like a little kid who got his marbles stolen.  It’s pretty immature.  You don’t always have to fire back, in fact, sometimes it makes you look like the good guy; like somebody who learned something after being in the league 17 years.

Barkley Will See Jail Time

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Charles Barkley will serve some jail time after pleeding guilty yesterday to driving under the influence.  In addition to that, he had to pay more than $2000 in fines, attend an alcohol treatment program, and will have to have an ignition interlock device installed in his car.

“I think it’s going to be good for me, to be honest. I need to make sure drinking is not a problem for me…” stated Barkley.

Utah Jazz Owner Dead at 64

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

In Utah, the only sport is basketball, and the only team the state loves is the Utah Jazz.  That’s why everybody feels a little empty today when Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller passes away due to complications to diabetes 2.

Larry Miller bought 50% of the team in 1985, a year when the Jazz may have moved to Miami.  He bought the rest of the team a year later and kept the spirit alive in Salt Lake City.  This is a man who stuck with Jerry Sloan through those painful post Malone-Stockton years, and was rewarded for being loyal to a great coach, and a good friend.  One of the great NBA owners, and his presence will be sorely missed in Salt Lake City.

Barkley Apologizes for DUI, No Mention of Amazing Blowjobs

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Well Chuck returned to TNT yesterday, and took some time to apologize for his actions, and didn’t deflect any responsibility, which is respectable.  Unfortunately never mentioned how good her blowjobs were, but that was pretty expected.  Still, nobody is sure who this woman is, but if she gets paid for such a thing, could u ask for better publicity than a testimonial on live national television?  Well, getting a little more serious (just a tad), things were business as usual until after the Celtics Jazz game, when Charles gave his oscar predictions.  Ernie decides to take a poke, by asking what Charles has been doing these past 3 months, suggesting the time he had allowed him to watch and rewatch every movie 3 or 4 times.  Then, Kenny expressed his concerns (somewhat comically) whether or not he thought Chuck was ready to come back, pointing back to that deep breathing and silence you will see in the video.  And for some reason the good people at TNT decided to go crazy with the cameras, possibly emulating Charles drunken experience, or just to be wacky.

Still, despite the colorful commentary by Webber and Payton, it was good to see Charles back, and he took the whole thing like a champ.

D-Wade Sues Wife

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Remember that little blurb I left a few posts ago about Dwyane Wade and his sex parties and drug use?  Well, one thing lead to another and now he’s suing his estranged wife and her lawyers $50,000 for slander.  She (Siohvaughn, can’t pronounce her name) accused Wade of picking up an STD from an extramarital affair in 2007, but pulled the accusation for reasons unknown.

Dwyane says that the whole thing cause him embarassment and humiliation, and hurt his future earning potential.  It has also tarnished his t-mobile family guy reputation.

The two married in 2002, and have two children.

Jason Richardson Speeds With Child

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Jason Richardson was clocked at 90 mph in a 35 limit zone, with his 3 year old child unharnessed.  He explained to the police officer that he was on his way home after taking his child to dinner.  He said it is a tough time for him, and he tries to be the best father he can be.  You know what, if you are driving 90 mph in a 35 mph area with anybody you care about, let alone your 3 year old child, you should check to see if they have their seatbelt on.  Had anything happened, an accident, or just braking really hard, he was risking the health of his child.

Finals MVP Named After Bill Russell

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Congratulations Bill Russell, who holds the record for NBA Championships during that legendary run that made the Celtics a household name, found out today that the finals MVP award will be named after him.  A great honor, for a great man, who avoided the spotlight and gave much credit to his teammates; truly a class act.  His story he told Cheryl Miller before the Haier Shooting Stars was pretty touching, how his wife took David Sterns secret to the grave.

I know the picture above makes him look like a ring monger, much like Golem from Lord of the Rings, but oh well.

Elgin Baylor Sues Clippers For Sexual Harassment

Published by basketballpeon under Off Court Edit This

Actually, for racial discrimination, but I’ve got your attention now right?  Elgin Baylor, former no. 1 draft pick and Laker great, is suing the Clippers’ organization after 22 years of service.  The claim is that he was grossly underpaid at a strikingly low $350,000 a year, which is low for a GM and he states that it is common knowledge that other GMs around the league get paid far more.

On the Clipper front, they can’t believe the lawsuit citing that the Clipper organization has stood by him for 22 years and only 3 playoff appearances- ZING!
