Marbury = Asshole
And Stephon wonders why people don’t like him and blame him for the collapse of a an entire team. The New York Knicks last played the Boston Celtics in a preseason game. It was Marbury’s first start, and now, here’s where things get interesting.
I read a story done by New York Time’ Howard Beck to find out that there was a lot of chirping going on. It was between Marbury and House. After drawing a foul on Kendrick Perkins and hitting two free throws, Marbury yelled at midcourt “You’re a bum!”. House retorted: “Don’t worry about me. You better worry about Ray Allen”. Makes sense, Marbury was guarding Allen, not hous (who was on the bench). Marbury replied : “You’re nothing!” and added “You’re caught up in basketball. Get caught up in life.”
If you go to other basketball blogs, you probably came across this amusing phrase at one point. Get caught up in life. First of all, what does Stephon know about life? He seems to have some issues himself, and he’s got more than an entire city upset with him. Secondly, why is he trash talking with House? He isn’t even playing! I believe that trash talk can be useful, if you recall the Cav’s beat the Wizards in the playoffs with timely trash talk to a freethrow shooting Arenas (many could argue that this was the case). But if trash talk serves no purpose, you are just a punk, a common bottom of the barrel thug.
Granted I received this story out of context, but it seems pretty straight forward to me. Marbury should just shut up and play ball, you’d think someone that claims to love the game as much as he does would be grateful to be back after sitting out most of last year. Not Marbury, he’s got a message and people are gonna hear it whether they want to or not.
Stephon was such a stellar bball player early in his career, I think his talent went to his head and it hurt him drastically.
I think you’re right. I give Marbury a lot of credit coming out of Coney Island, sixth of seven children to become such a success. But, don’t forget that he went by the nickname “Starbury” well before his professional career. That kind of mentality, and bragging about coming out of Coney Island has to create some kind of ego. Regardless of how he got here, he acts like a dick and I don’t appreciate that.
